Professor Vladimir Dugalić is a specialist in abdominal surgery who is employed at the First Surgical Clinic of the University Clinical Centre of Serbia. With over 30 years of experience in general surgery, he has a particular interest in liver, pancreatic, and biliary surgery. In 1992, he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Belgrade with an average grade of 10. He completed his specialization in general surgery at the First Surgical Clinic in 1998. He went on to earn his master’s degree from the University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Medicine in 2007 and his doctorate from the same institution in 2014. Recently, in 2021, he was appointed as an associate professor at the Department of Surgery and Anaesthesiology.
Professor Dugalić has worked alongside Professor Božin Radević, one of the pioneers of transplant surgery in Serbia and Montenegro. From 2002 to 2006, he was a member of the liver transplant team. In 2010, 2011, and 2013, he undertook study visits to Japan, where he collaborated with experts in liver and pancreas surgery, including Masatoshi Makuuchi and Akimasa Nakao. He also received training from prestigious European institutions, studying under professors such as Claudio Bassi in Verona, Pierre-Alain Clavien in Zurich, Nigel Heaton in London, Markus Büchler at Heidelberg University in Germany, and Guido Torzilli in Milan.
Benign and malignant diseases in surgery of the liver, bile ducts, and pancreas are Professor Dugalić’s areas of research and clinical interest. Three-dimensional (3D) liver reconstruction, CT simulation, and navigation in liver surgery have received a lot of attention in recent years.
